Our story:

Superior Peat is a bulk supplier of Hypnum Peat Moss and Hypnum Black Peat as well as other products to the landscaping, nursery, agriculture and horticultural needs of the Pacific Northwest.

These products are harvested along with our Screened Organic Top Soil from our own Bog situated 4500 ft. above the Okanagan Valley.  This high elevation, coupled with a topography carved by glaciers, twice covered in volcanic ash and with moisture supplied by both surface water and the atmosphere, has created a natural alternative to man made soil additives, amendments and conditioners, containing no bio-solids.

 

Harvested using heavy equipment, our products are pre-screened then transported to Penticton for final hand cleaning (that's right!) and drying by the air and sun. Once this is completed and just prior to shipping, our product is processed through a custom designed Hammer Mill ensuring the final product has a texture and particle size that is easy to work with.

HOW TO USE SUPERIOR PEAT

For flower beds, rose gardens, vegetable gardens, bedding plants, etc.:

  • For best results, depending on your existing soil conditions and the required PH level of your plantings, mix 25% to 50% of Superior Peat Soil / Peat Moss with existing soil.

For new lawns:

  • Spread 2 to 3 inches of Peat Soil / Peat Moss over existing soil, rototill or dig in to a depth of 6 inches, mixing well, fertilize and spread grass seed as per suppliers instructions, cover grass seeds with 1/4 to 1/2 inches of Peat Soil / Peat Moss, water as directed. If using sod, prepare soil as above, lay sod following suppliers instructions, fill cracks with Peat Soil / Peat Moss and water as directed.

For trees and shrubs:

  • Dig hole 2 times the size and 6 inches deeper then the root ball ensuring bottom of hole is loose. Mix one part Peat Soil or Peat Moss with soil from hole. Backfill around root ball, water, and allow to settle. Add remaining soil mix and mound outside perimeter of hole to hold water.
